As always, the term "fade" requires a little background explanation. Remember, just because a player is listed as a "fade" does not automatically mean that he is a shoo-in. As the adage goes, "Always use your star players."
What the "bust" designation means is that you will want to consider more upside options in the flex.
Welcome to Week 2 of the fantasy football season. Week 1 was full of surprises from top to bottom, just as Week 1 of the season will be. But don't get too comfortable with what you saw in week 1.
Here's who I think could disappoint in Week 2:
Since being traded to the Los Angeles Rams, Matthew Stafford has been in the same NFC West Rivalry, and has played five games against the San Francisco 49ers. In those matchups, Stafford averaged 252 passing yards per game, totaling just seven passing touchdowns, compared to his total of six interceptions and averaging just 14.35 fantasy points per game.
Surprisingly, the Rams' suspect offensive line held up quite well in Week 1, with Stafford seeing pressure on just 23.1% of dropbacks. But it would be shocking if that success continues against Nick Bosa and the rest of the 49ers defense. San Francisco made the Steelers' offensive line start up like a junior team.
Playmakers throughout the defensive line are ready to spoil Stafford's day - including new offseason additions Javon Hargrave and 2022 second-round pick Drake Jackson, who combined for 4.0 sacks to open the season - and that pressure will force some likely to force some mistakes and misses, and expect Stafford to be less likely to recover without star receiver Cooper Kupp to bail him out.
I'm not here just to hate on the LA Rams, I promise.
But they have a tough matchup and the significant workload Akers saw in Week 1 may be tempting as fantasy managers set their lineups. However, Akers was tremendously inefficient with the work he received, totaling just 29 scrimmage yards with (fortunately) no rushing touchdowns to save his fantasy day. What fantasy managers need to put the brakes on, more than his abysmal efficiency, is the timing of his appointment. | to be able to you really come across it that you can in fact us promise, anyone can quickly forget about just how seemingly exactly {} these seemingly disregarded a person.
繼續閲讀In Week 2, the Akers will not be happy with his touch situation, set to face the San Francisco 49ers, who have been one of the most suffocating run defenses dating back to 2022. Since last season, the 49ers have allowed just 13.8 fantasy points in half PPR score formats in that span as the only defense in the league that has allowed less than 1,100 rushing yards.
Akers is a veritable bust in Week 2, having already struggled with efficiency and seen the bulk of his carries in garbage time to start the year.
Javonte Williams had a considerable workload in his first game back from a season-ending complicated knee injury suffered in 2022. He had 17 total touches and only 57 total yards. But while the touches were encouraging, even if that workload continues into Week 2, he will have an uphill battle to get back on track in terms of efficiency.
In Week 2, the Broncos will take on the Washington Commanders. Even though they were without Chase Young, who missed Week 1 with a neck injury (and will likely miss Week 2 as well), the commanding defensive line was competitive. Jonathan Allen and Montes Sweat provided a lot of good offense against the run game, holding the Cardinals' backfield to just three yards per carry and allowing only one broken tackle on the week.
Even though broken tackles are Williams' forte, we feel it is unlikely that this is the breakout game you are looking for, not against this particular opponent.
The Colts offense, led by Michael Pittman Jr. and rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson, started the season off solid. However, in Week 2, the Colts will face a much bigger test against the Houston Texans, who have turned the cornerback trio of Steven Nelson, Derek Stingley Jr. and Taviele Thomas around from solid performances. The secondary is off to a slow start to the 2022 season, allowing over 100 receiving yards to four wide receivers through the Week 6 bye.
From Week 7 through 2023, the Texans defense has recorded a 39.4% pressure rate (4th), 12 interceptions (5th), and has allowed only 2.9% of touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks, 4th in the league.
Pittman is no stranger to the Texans, of course, having played them six times in his career as divisional rivals, the best coming in Week 1 of the 2022 season, when he went from 5th overall WR that week to flat at WR26 through the rest of the season. While Pittman will likely be Richardson's top target, the rookie quarterback still has a ways to go to become one of the top passers in the league, even though he exceeded expectations in Week 1.
Expect the Texans' defense to force Richardson into a few mistakes.
Not sitting Garrett Wilson is, well, ...... Because he is Garrett Wilson. You can't sit a star player. But if there is a matchup to consider it, it might be this game. The Jets are elated after their miracle win on Monday Night, but they are now also managing expectations of what their season will look like with Zach Wilson under center.
Though the pair of QBs and SRs managed a receiving touchdown in Week 1, it came behind one of the craziest catcheswe are bound to see all season. In Garrett's 10 games with Wilson at quarterback, he had a total of 5.1 or fewer fantasy points in six of those games, one of the lowest floors conceivable, while never exceeding 15 fantasy points in a single matchup.
In Week 2, the Jets will face the Dallas Cowboys, with Stephon Gilmore and Trevon Diggs dominating coverage and Micah Parsons, Dante Fowler, DeMarcus Lawrence and Chauncey Golston dominating the pass rush. This defense may very well eat Zach alive, which will not help Garrett's fantasy prospects.
No thanks.
Bust: Hayden Hurst (TE, Carolina Panthers) [28] [29] With the tight end position and injuries that could carry over into Week 2 (Travis Kelce, Mark Andrews), fantasy managers Hayden Hurst could be a lookout. In his first regular season game with the Panthers, he led the team with seven targets on the day, catching five of them for 41 yards and a score, finishing as the TE2 overall for the week.
Unfortunately, next up on the schedule is the Saints defense, which has allowed a single tight end to score 9 or more fantasy points in a single week dating back to last season. This defense has allowed only two touchdowns to this position, so it seems highly unlikely that Hurst will repeat the same performance in Week 2.
